The Brazilian Maia wasn’t able to completely end off his American opponent, but he received the first choice victory of his career when one mediate scored the fight 30-27 and two scored it 29-28, all in his favor.
Maia opened the first around with the first hard punch and kept up his offensive against Miller, but the latter was excellent at escaping Maia’s kicks and punches.
Miller survived the first around and was able to connect with numerous body hits on around two, but Maia was able to land some straight hard punches against Miller and still won the following around.
By around three, Miller was able to throw off some takedown attempts and catch Maia off guard, but Maia finally planted Miller down on his back and kept him there. Although the fight did not end in a submission, Maia kept Miller on the mat long sufficient to win the unanimous choice.
